Abstract

This article presents as a contribution, the development of an evaporator modelling which is part of a diffusion-absorption refrigeration system of small volumetric capacity (frigobar). The model is based on physical principles and empirical correlations, moreover, geometric parameters of interest such as the length and diameter of the evaporator are involved in it. An experimental analysis is performed to obtain the thermal performance of the evaporator under three positions in the thermostat; the model validation is conducted through these results, which present marginal errors below 10%. Based on the good reliability shown by the model, it is applied to the energetic simulation of the global system. Among the relevant results, reductions in the length of the evaporator can be achieve without disturbing the cooling capacity and energy performance of the experimental system. This represents an opportunity for manufacturers to extend their analysis to the different equipment that forms a system of diffusion-absorption when in search of energy improvements and optimal design conditions.
