Abstract

One of the limitations for pitahaya production in Mexico is related at neglected crop management and propagation period. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of five nutrient solutions (NS) enriched with silicon and different sources of nitrogen (NO3- and NH4+) during the vegetative development of pitahaya. A crop was established with the Hylocereus undatus under greenhouse and in substrate, and five Nutritive Solution (NS): 1. Steiner normal (Control); 2. Steiner 75 % (SN75); 3. Steiner with Si (SNsi); 4. Hoagland and 5. An experimental arrangement was designed in completely randomized blocks with five treatments and five replications. Plant height, number of shoots, ridge diameters and face diameter were measured during nine months, and, at the end of this period, fresh and dry weight of root and aerial part, as well as root volume, length and diameter were estimated. Nutritional analysis of cladode tissue was performed 279 days after transplanting. Significant differences were observed for Duncan (p ≤ 0.05) in the physical variables analyzed; SNsi (higher water content); SN75 % (number of shoots), and Hewitt (total height). Nutrient accumulation was K>Ca>N>Mg>P>S.
