Abstract

In this work results that demonstrate the formation of space charge in low density polyethylene, LDPE, caused by humidity absorption are obtained. It was shown that at higher exposure times of the samples to humidity, increases the charge accumulated at the interfaces and volume of polyethylene. It was also observed that humidity facilitates the process of conduction charge packets through the polyethylene films, spending less time in wet samples in which no watered. The humidity absorbed by the LDPE helps to exist as many trapping centers for charge injected from the electrodes and the contribution of bulk charge due to ionization effect of high electric fields.
